We can’t live without rhythm – and take it from us: African themed entertainment has the exceptional ability to connect with anyone from around the world with one rhythmic beat. It is vibrant and energising, with bright colours, upbeat tempos and a sunny outlook to brighten any celebration. This season our team at the Concepts Collection has been setting trends in rhythm, by encouraging both local and international clients to embrace African musicians or groups, to not only enhance their event – but also to make a statement and set it apart from the rest!

If you would like to make a statement of Grammy proportions, consider some of the best ambassadors for Southern African: The Soweto Gospel Choir. If you ever wanted to see a singing kaleidoscope, this is your chance. So for an exclusive week-long family gathering in Cape Town, we needed a performance that would resonate in the memories of those attending for years to come.  The Soweto Gospel Choir consist of 22 voices in perfect harmony as they blend, twist, swoop and surge through a varied selection of songs and languages, with feet, hands, tongues and drums keeping the beat. In vibrant costumes that integrate aspects of Xhosa and Ndebele design and Zulu beadwork, the stage became a splash of colour, taut and alert with the performers’ infectious camaraderie. It was impossible not to be swept along by this energised performance – a true celebration of the spirit of South Africa.

But the list of infectious African entertainment is endless and can suit any part of any celebration. Children’s Choirs or African Jazz Trio’s with a beautiful vocal are perfect for a more sedate gatherings. Vibrant Marimba Bands accompanied by opera singers and saxophones or the acrobatic Fire Tribe – a mesmerising fire performance group – are other options to uplift and excite. To set a different mood altogether and perhaps ignite the beginning of a celebration with a surprise performance, traditional Zulu Impi warriors adorned in traditional tribal gear, exude a sense of honour and bravery. Then finally to get any party kick-started or simply to act as an ice-breaker that transcend languages and borders, interactive drumming circles are fast becoming the latest hot entertainment trend at all celebrations and events. In drumming circles, each person participates 100% and brings their unique sound into the mix to create a one-of-kind percussive orchestra. This is truly a case of unity through diversity. The significant purpose of an interactive drumming circle is that all your guests will come together with one unified beat – regardless of age, race or gender. Combine this vibrant finale with any of the above mentioned performances and we think that’s the perfect recipe for an unforgettable celebration!
