Under the theme “Delivering on Africa’s Promise”, the 23rd World Economic Forum on Africa hosted at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, provided an important platform for regional and global leaders from business, government and civil society to deepen the continent’s integration agenda and renew commitment to a sustainable path of growth and development. Event Concepts, in collaboration with production partners ESPAfrika, won the tender to create an appropriate end of conference celebration, a Gala Dinner to be remembered. With a brief from the Governments National Treasury to create a wow factor event for 900 guests, 20 African and International heads of state plus the South African President, the pressure was on, but our creative and coordination team led by Rebs Mogoba went into overdrive and emerged triumphant.
Our Event Team had to bring the concept to life, unifying and unlocking Africa’s untapped potential & growth for global prosperity. The result for this year’s soiree was “Mokete” – a Sotho word meaning “A Cultural Feast”, for delegates to experience the Tapestry of Africa through a sensory excursion of taste, entertainment, décor, textures and art.
To showcase the continent with its diverse and rich cultures, our décor and design teams used a chic colour scheme to highlight mineral rich Africa. Gold, bronze, copper and platinum were combined with neutral and earthy undertones to stylishly translate the look and feel across pre-dinner drinks and of course the gala dinner. Customised lighting features included dozens of crystal chandeliers, bronze textured lampshades and never seen before glossy copper pendants. Bespoke screens framed the mammoth hall and the incredible sound stage literally took centre stage! As part of the sensory excursion, delegates were introduced to Yswara Teas: Curator of Precious African Teas. A tea tasting station took guests on a journey to explore the magnificent teas, infusions and blends that make up YSWARA’s treasured African tea collection, grown and blended solely on African soil.
During the official proceedings, the high profile delegates and dignitaries dined from a menu showcasing some of South Africa’s most beloved dishes, and were then lifted from their chairs with an amazing performance from famed songstress Lira.
“Mokete” rocked the night away as only Africa can. We’d like to thank all our industry partners whose involvement ensured an incredibly successful event, namely ESPAfrika, Okasie, Something-Different, Urban Tonic and Lara’s Designs.
