When Norwegian organisation BKM Eiker decided on Cape Town as the destination for their group rewards programme, they asked our integrated travel and event team to create and manage their itinerary from start to finish.
Their exciting brief was to showcase the very best of Cape Town – with experiences for a group of 280 young and active delegates. Requiring the very best of a destination management, we were tasked with creating group sightseeing tours, dinners with entertainment, a number of adventure group activities and a celebratory gala dinner to end their whirlwind trip to South Africa.
With a requirement to be based in the city for the week, we booked out most of the 252 rooms of the new Radisson Red hotel, located in the heart of the lively new silo district of Cape Town’s waterfront complex. It was the perfect choice with its’ design focus and trendy rooftop lounge bar offering 360 degree views of the city, ocean and Table Mountain. Our travel team based themselves here for the week to provide on-site destination information and manage the transport and operational logistics.
After an arrival day of airport transfers and check-ins, the full group congregated for a casual welcome cocktail evening with sunshine and ocean views at the Bungalow restaurant in Camps Bay.
Day 1 dawned sunny and bright for a full group tour around the beauty of the Cape Peninsula. Seven coaches set off at intervals along the famous and spectacular Chapman’s peak coastal scenic and cliff top drive. With stops at Boulders beach to see the penguin colonies and catch some sun and swimming it was onwards to the rugged Cape Point nature reserve for photo’s with ostriches and baboons. The tour ended with a walk up to Cape Point itself and the lighthouse at the foot of Africa, followed by late lunch at the Two Oceans restaurant in the reserve.
Day 2 was all about an action-packed day of adventure and adrenaline pursuits, with small groups taking part in activities like zip lining, surfing, sand boarding, quad biking, kayaking, mountain climbing and abseiling. For those slightly less active, leisurely mountain biking and wine tasting through the Cape Winelands was a welcome alternative. The relaxed group dinner that evening was full of shared stories and adventures of a great day and also a few tired limbs.
Day 3 saw the whole group on the road again, for a full day safari adventure at Aquila Game Reserve – where the group had a chance to combine game drives and animal watching, a number of ball games or simply lay by the pool and listen to the marimba band.
The final day saw a morning of rest and leisure, with some indulging in spa treatments and others taking guided walks through Cape Town or shopping in the exclusive V&A Waterfront. In the afternoon we transported the full group in luxury transfers to the Cape Winelands to La Paris Estate, the spectacular location for their final gala dinner celebration and awards ceremony.
After an exciting week here is what our clients had to say: “Thank you so much for a fantastic experience for our group in Cape Town. We were a mixed age group of 285 pax, and everyone had an excellent time. From the very first contact, communication has been excellent and we have felt we were in safe hands. Every detail of our trip had been well organized, thoroughly thought through, with nothing left to chance. We consider ourselves very lucky to have found such talented and dedicated people to help us with our trip, and we highly recommend your services.”
