The Thai Festival of Lights, known for it’s colourful parades, fireworks, and the release of paper lanterns, is a visual extravaganza, making it a fitting inspiration for this incredible 50th birthday party at Cape Town’s luxurious Villa Maison Noir. Owner, Jim Brett, wanted to celebrate his milestone birthday by inviting guests on a journey of the senses through the exquisite Paolo Deliperi-designed spaces of his exclusive property.
As guests arrived, they were greeted at the villa’s entrance with Jim’s signature cocktail, ‘Aunt Spice’. They were given a custom designed welcome booklet that included a map of the property and a schedule for the evening’s events still to come!
The ‘Festival of Lights’ theme infused each aspect of the evening, from decor to florals, food, and entertainment, it was a night to remember! Inside, family and friends found themselves transported by sight and sound to a secret Thai garden, with over 500 lights scattered throughout the property. For the central area we created a dazzling ‘orchid lounge’. Keeping to a palette of yellow and white with calming neutrals, the gorgeous florals were really able to stand out!
We styled elegant lounging areas on the lawn where guests could mingle and enjoy delicious food and cocktails. These included custom fabric drops in the cabanas, featuring a stylish gold brush motif. This logo was featured across all design elements, including a bespoke photo booth backdrop and all personalised stationery. Dozens of custom fabric lanterns were strung across the gardens, further reflecting the Thai theme. Later in the evening, a beautifully styled Thai food station was made available for guests to help themselves.
After a wonderfully relaxed dinner, guests were invited to move down to the concert lawn were a custom built stage was awaiting the evening’s performance. A sixteen-piece band, put together especially for the event, who performed all of Jim’s favourite songs – a highlight of the night! As a final surprise, Jim himself stepped on stage to sing a song dedicated to his beloved husband, Ed.
Guests were then led down to our ‘red light district’, a beautiful outdoor lounge area decorated with custom made red lanterns that added a sultry glow. Here they enjoyed dessert canapes and the evening ended – as all great parties do – with dancing late into the night!
